Trapezius Botox in Korea: Shoulder Line Slimming in Gangnam, Seoul

The shrug test, the marking and the needle stay with one person from start to finish. Dr. Hong Seung-hyuk, Dr. Maeng Woo-jae and Dr. Hong Yeong-ho are board-certified Family Medicine specialists working in aesthetic dermatology, and the director who examines your shoulders is the one who treats them and reviews them afterwards. You sit upright and awake under local anaesthesia; sedation exists as an optional extra at additional cost and is not used for shoulder work.

Can trapezius botox give me a flatter, longer shoulder line?

It can, where the ridge running from neck to shoulder is built out of an overworked muscle. The upper trapezius is the sheet that shrugs and steadies your shoulder, and desk posture, a heavy bag worn on one side, overhead training and months of held tension keep it loaded until it stands proud as a thick slope. Botulinum toxin type A placed into those upper fibres lowers the force each contraction can generate; the muscle works less, its bulk settles, and the distance from ear to shoulder reads longer. Bone underneath is untouched, so a slope set by the collarbone or by where your shoulder blades sit will look the same afterwards, and a director at G Clinic tells you that at the examination. Plenty of patients come for the stiffness as much as for the silhouette. Your figure is settled at a free consultation in Gangnam, Seoul.

The Visit

What a trapezius appointment in Gangnam involves, stage by stage.

Four stages, from the first shrug against a director’s hands to the instructions you take home about bags and training.

  1. 01

Reading the slope while you shrug and relax

You sit upright, drop your arms, then lift both shoulders towards your ears while a director rests his hands across the tops of them. A loaded upper trapezius rises into a firm band and softens as you let go; a slope built from bone behaves identically whatever you do. Your working posture, your training, which shoulder carries the bag, any neck pain radiating into the head, your medications and any injectable work done elsewhere all go into the record at the same sitting, and the assessment costs nothing.

  2. 02

Mapping both shoulders as separate plans

Points are marked with you seated and the muscle contracted, since the band shows its real width only under load. The director stays within the upper fibres above the spine of the shoulder blade and keeps well away from the deeper structures at the base of the neck. Left and right are marked independently: a right-handed patient who has carried a shoulder bag for a decade usually has an asymmetric ridge, and treating both sides identically leaves that asymmetry in place.

  3. 03

    Injecting the upper trapezius fibres

A fine needle enters at each marked point and the dose is distributed through the thickness of the band so that it never pools in one place. You stay awake, upright and able to talk; most people describe a brief sting followed by a dull ache that passes within moments. Local anaesthesia is the clinic standard for injection work and sedation is unnecessary here. The sequence is short, no dressing goes on afterwards, and you sit up and get your coat.

  4. 04

Bag, training and shoulder review instructions

You are asked to stay upright for the rest of the day, to keep massage, heat and pressure off the treated band, and to leave heavy overhead lifting alone for a short period the director specifies. Because the change here builds slowly, the review carries real weight: a director looks at the shoulder line once the muscle has begun to settle, compares the two sides, and decides whether either needs a further round.

The Mechanism

Why quieting a shrugging muscle lengthens the neck line.

The upper trapezius holds the shoulder girdle up against gravity all day and shortens whenever you brace, type with your elbows unsupported, or hook a strap over one side. Muscle answers a standing workload the way it always does, by thickening, and because this particular sheet sits exactly where the neck meets the shoulder, extra bulk fills the hollow that would otherwise make the neck look long. The result photographs as a short neck sitting on a high, rounded ridge.

Botulinum toxin type A weakens the signal reaching those fibres, so each contraction is less forceful. The muscle carries a lighter share of the daily load, demand falls, and volume follows demand downward over the weeks that follow. That is the whole of it: no filler is added, nothing is cut, and the slope you eventually see is a muscle taking up less room than it did.

Stating the mechanism also states the limits. Nothing here narrows a collarbone, repositions a shoulder blade, or removes fat sitting over the upper back. The wider family of toxin services at this clinic, from expression lines to intradermal work, is laid out on the botox in Gangnam hub, and this page keeps to the shoulder.

The Differential

Muscle, frame or padding: what makes a shoulder line look heavy.

Three quite different structures produce the same complaint in a photograph, and the examination exists to separate them. Muscular bulk moves: it hardens under the fingers on a shrug and lets go the moment you relax. Skeletal shape does not move at all, because the angle of the clavicle and the resting position of the shoulder blades are fixed architecture. Soft padding over the upper back and around the bra line feels doughy, sits lower and further back than the trapezius band, and shifts when you lean forward.

Most people arrive carrying two of the three. A director will say when the ridge is genuinely thick but the neck also looks short because the shoulders are held high and rolled forward, in which case toxin softens the band while the posture keeps producing the silhouette you dislike. That combination gets a realistic ceiling attached to it at the examination.

Patients often ask about pairing this with facial work on the same visit, and the pairing is common: the chewing muscle at the jaw responds to the same class of injection and is described on the jaw botox page. Directors here regularly plan the lower face and the shoulder line in one sitting because neither costs you any recovery time.

Tension

The stiffness people bring in alongside the silhouette.

A large share of the enquiries about this treatment do not begin with a mirror. They begin with a shoulder that feels like a rope by mid-afternoon, a habit of rolling the neck at the desk, and a monthly massage that helps for two days. When a muscle contracts hard for most of a working day, that sustained tone is felt as tightness, and it commonly travels up into the base of the skull.

Lowering the force of contraction in the treated band changes what that shoulder does through the day, and many patients report the tension easing before they notice anything about the outline. It is worth saying clearly what this does and does not represent: the injection addresses a muscle that is working too hard, and it is not a diagnosis or a treatment for neck pain arising from the spine, the discs or a nerve. Where your history points that way, a director says so and directs you to the right kind of assessment first.

Posture is the other half of the conversation. A band that is relaxed by an injection is still asked to hold a head that sits forward of the shoulders for eight hours a day, so the directors talk about desk height, screen position and bag habits at the review. Patients who change one or two of those tend to hold their result more comfortably.

Suitability

Who is treated for a thick shoulder ridge, and who is turned away at the examination.

The patient this suits is an adult in reasonable health whose upper trapezius can be felt to bulge on a shrug, typically after years at a keyboard, in a training programme heavy on overhead work, or with a bag worn on the same shoulder every day. Wanting a longer-looking neck in photographs is a reasonable goal, and so is wanting the daily tightness in that band to ease.

Several people are declined, and told why on the spot. Pregnancy and breastfeeding rule the injections out for the time being. Any diagnosed neuromuscular disease, myasthenia gravis among them, and any related condition of the nerve-to-muscle junction, is a firm exclusion. An active infection over a marked point postpones the appointment, as does a current course of aminoglycoside antibiotics, which can amplify the effect on muscle. A known sensitivity to any component of the preparation stops the conversation there.

Two refusals are the ones patients argue with. The first is the shoulder whose slope comes from the angle of the collarbone and the resting set of the shoulder blade, with a thin band of muscle over it: no injection narrows a bone, and a director who tells you the ceiling is your frame is describing anatomy. The second is the swimmer, climber, rower or manual worker whose living depends on that muscle pulling hard, who is told plainly that weakening it is a poor trade and is sent away untreated. Where the fullness turns out to be a fat pad over the upper back, that is a different route and the G-fat fat extraction page covers how the clinic approaches localised fat. Nobody is asked to book on the day.

Results

How the shoulder line changes, and on what timetable.

You walk out looking exactly as you walked in, and that is the expected course. The muscle first has to stop pulling at its old intensity, and only afterwards does bulk begin to fall away. The order patients report is fairly consistent: the shoulder feels less braced and lighter first, the band softens under a partner’s hand next, and the outline in a photograph taken from the front changes some way after that. Anyone who flies home a few days later and studies the mirror is looking far too early.

What arrives is a settling of the ridge and a longer-reading line from the ear down to the shoulder point. Necklines and off-shoulder collars are the usual thing patients mention, along with a bag strap that stops digging into a raised slope. People who came in for the tightness often name that as the change they value.

Nothing achieved here lasts indefinitely. Nerve endings recover, pulling strength comes back, and a muscle returned to its old workload rebuilds towards its old bulk, so this is planned as a repeating appointment. How long any individual holds the result depends on how hard the muscle is used, how much was treated and personal physiology, and a director gives you a personal expectation at the review instead of a number from a web page. Individual results vary, and where a director shows you case photographs in the consultation room, those images are used with the written consent of the patient in them.

Safety

Risks of shoulder injections, called by their proper names.

This is a medical procedure and it carries genuine risk, which your director goes through with you before consent is taken. The common events are local: small bruises at the puncture points, pinpoint redness, a little swelling, tenderness across the band for a day or two, and a headache in the first days for some patients. A deep ache in the shoulder afterwards is ordinary, since the needle travels into muscle.

The complications particular to this area deserve naming. Excess weakness in the treated muscle is the leading one, felt as heaviness when lifting a bag onto the shoulder, difficulty holding a heavy rucksack, or arms that tire during overhead work such as reaching a high shelf or drying long hair. Neck weakness can follow the same mechanism, with the head feeling less well supported at the end of a long day, and some patients notice their posture altering while the muscle is quiet because a band that once braced the shoulder is doing less. Asymmetry between the sides happens where one shoulder was already stronger, and it is corrected at review. Spread of the toxin beyond the target fibres is uncommon and can produce difficulty swallowing or more widespread neck weakness, which needs prompt medical attention. Allergic reaction is rare and is taken seriously. Occasionally a muscle barely responds at all.

Give the clinic your full history at the assessment: neuromuscular conditions, neck or spine problems, current medications and supplements, previous reactions to injectable treatments, and whether there is any chance you are pregnant. Contact the clinic if swallowing becomes difficult, if breathing feels affected, if weakness spreads beyond the treated shoulders, or if pain and redness increase after the first day. One of the three resident directors is in the building during opening hours. Anyone considering toxin for sweating should read the separate cautions set out on the underarm sweat botox page, since the area and the warnings differ.

Downtime

Bags, training and flights after a shoulder appointment.

There is no recovery period in the ordinary sense. You leave with a few pinpoint marks that fade within the day, put your coat back on, and go to your next appointment. No dressing, no garment and no time carved out of an itinerary, so patients routinely slot this into an afternoon in Gangnam between other plans.

A short list of sensible limits applies. Stay upright for the rest of the day, keep saunas, hot baths and deep massage off the treated band until your director clears them, and leave heavy overhead pressing and loaded shrugs alone for the period he specifies. Carrying a suitcase up a flight of stairs on the day of treatment is worth avoiding. Anyone on blood thinners or fish oil, and anyone who drank the night before, bruises more easily, so mention it in advance if you have photographs coming up.

For international patients the constraint is the timetable and not the healing. The shoulder is slow to declare itself, so a single short trip covers the injection comfortably but rarely covers a settled result as well. Coordinators either place the review in a later visit or keep it in your schedule if you are staying on. Send your travel dates with your enquiry and you will get a realistic answer in English before flights are booked.

This table describes categories of treatment and no clinic other than this one. Where the volume on the upper back is substantial and a patient wants it removed surgically, the relevant reading is the liposuction in Korea page, and where a short-looking neck turns out to be a question of facial proportion, volume work is covered under dermal filler. Scientific Evidence

What the published literature on botulinum toxin in muscle covers.

Botulinum toxin type A has been examined in peer-reviewed journals for decades, and three papers indicate the kind of question that literature asks. A prospective study reported the effect of botulinum toxin A on masseteric muscle hypertrophy, measured with ultrasonography and electromyography (To, 2001). A multicentre, double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled study assessed the efficacy and safety of botulinum toxin type A in the treatment of glabellar lines (Carruthers, 2002). A randomised, parallel group, double blind, placebo controlled trial examined botulinum toxin type A in the treatment of bilateral primary axillary hyperhidrosis (Naumann, 2001). These reports concern a chewing muscle, the upper face and the underarm, and they describe the agent as a category. None of them reports outcomes at G Clinic, and none predicts what your own shoulders will do, which is a conversation for the consultation room.

Trapezius botox price in Korea: how the quote is built here.

People searching for a trapezius botox price in Korea are usually working out whether the trip is worth taking before they enquire at all. The straight position from this clinic is that shoulder treatment sits on the internal fee schedule, no international rate for it has been released for publication, and the clinic will not have a figure invented on its behalf to fill a gap on a web page. Consultation required. What you are quoted follows from what your shoulders are found to need once a director has felt the muscle contract.

Two things hold regardless. The assessment costs nothing, including the ones that end with a director saying the treatment is wrong for your frame. And the full plan, with any optional extra shown as its own line if you ask for it, is put in front of you in writing before you consent to anything.

FAQ

Trapezius botox and the shoulder line — your questions.

What is the price of trapezius botox in Korea at G Clinic?

Shoulder treatment appears on the internal fee schedule, but no international figure for it has been approved for publication, so none is printed on this page and none is invented. Your quotation is built at the free consultation from what the director finds when he feels the band contract, it covers both shoulders as one plan, and it is given to you in writing before you consent to a single injection.

How do I tell whether my shoulder line is muscle or bone?

Rest your fingertips on the top of the shoulder halfway between neck and shoulder point, then lift both shoulders towards your ears. If a firm band swells under the fingers and drops away as you relax, that is trapezius and it can be treated. If the shape feels the same whether you shrug or not, the slope belongs to your collarbone and shoulder blade, and no injection alters it. A director runs the same test with far more experience at the examination.

When will my shoulders actually look different?

Not on the day and not within the first week. The muscle has to stop pulling at its former intensity before its bulk begins to reduce, so the outline settles gradually over the weeks that follow the appointment. The feeling of a lighter, less braced shoulder usually arrives well before any change is visible in a photograph, and patients who inspect the mirror two days later are looking much too early.

Does this help with shoulder and neck stiffness as well?

Many patients report that the rope-like tightness across the shoulders eases once the band contracts less forcefully, and for a fair number that relief matters more than the change in outline. What it is not is a diagnosis or a remedy for neck pain coming from the spine, a disc or a nerve. Where your history suggests any of those, a director says so and points you towards the appropriate assessment before anything is injected.

Can trapezius injections cause headaches or change my posture?

A headache in the first days is a recognised event after toxin injections and usually passes on its own. Posture change is a genuine possibility as well: a band that has been bracing your shoulders for years is doing less while the effect lasts, and some patients describe the head feeling less supported at the end of a long day. Both are temporary, and your director wants to hear about either at the review.

Will my shoulders be too weak to carry things?

Reduced pulling power in the treated muscle is the intended effect, and for most people ordinary life is unaffected. Some do notice that hoisting a heavy bag onto the shoulder, wearing a loaded rucksack or working with the arms overhead feels like harder work for a period. Tell your director at the assessment if your job or your sport depends on that muscle, because the plan can be adjusted or advised against entirely.

Who should not have trapezius treatment at all?

Anyone pregnant or breastfeeding, for the time being. Anyone with a diagnosed neuromuscular disease such as myasthenia gravis or a related disorder of the nerve-to-muscle junction. Anyone with an active infection over a marked point, or a known sensitivity to a component of the preparation. A current course of aminoglycoside antibiotics postpones the appointment because that group can amplify the effect on muscle. Athletes and manual workers who need the muscle pulling at full strength are advised against it.

How long does the result hold, and what happens if I stop?

The effect is temporary in every case, so it is planned as a recurring appointment. If you stop, nerve function recovers, pulling strength returns, and a muscle put back on its old workload rebuilds towards the bulk it had, so the shoulder line drifts back to where it began. Nothing worsens beyond that starting point. Duration varies with how hard you use the muscle and with your own physiology, and your director gives you a personal estimate at the review.

Who does the injecting, and will I be asleep?

One of the three medical directors treats you personally: Dr. Hong Seung-hyuk, Dr. Maeng Woo-jae or Dr. Hong Yeong-ho, all board-certified Family Medicine specialists working in aesthetic dermatology and all on site during opening hours. You remain fully awake, seated upright under local anaesthesia, and you can talk throughout. Sedation is unnecessary for shoulder work, though it is available across other procedures at this clinic at an additional cost.

Which product goes into the muscle?

Manufacturer names are kept off this website in line with Korean rules on advertising prescription medicines, so the preparation is discussed with you in the consultation room where that conversation belongs. Everything used for this treatment is a botulinum toxin type A preparation approved for use in Korea, ordered through licensed supply, and stored and reconstituted by medical staff under clinic protocol on the day of your appointment.

Can I train, swim or wear a rucksack afterwards?

Light activity on the same day is fine and you can walk out to your next appointment. Leave loaded shrugs, heavy overhead pressing and deep massage of the treated band alone for the period your director specifies, and keep saunas and hot baths for another day. Swimmers, climbers and anyone whose sport pulls hard through the shoulders should raise it at the assessment, because the treatment may be advised against for you.

Can I have this alongside other treatments on one trip?

Usually yes, since none of it demands recovery time. Directors regularly plan the shoulder line together with the chewing muscle described on the jaw botox page, or with the intradermal technique for skin texture set out under skin botox. Your director sequences whatever makes sense at a single examination and tells you plainly what is better left for a later visit.

How do I arrange this from outside Korea?

Send your travel dates and a clear photograph of your shoulders from the front and the side through the consultation form, and a coordinator replies in English with a realistic schedule. Because the shoulder declares itself slowly, they will tell you whether your dates allow a review on the same trip. If you are still deciding between areas, the full toxin range is summarised on the botox in Gangnam hub.
